Injectable Fillers

While we may not want too much of it on our tummy or thighs, fat does have a place. Some fullness is necessary for a youthful-looking face that is free of wrinkles. To restore facial volume and to reduce wrinkles, Dr. Monica Bonakdar can use injectable dermal fillers at her Orange County practice in Newport Beach. These fillers such as Artefill®, Sculptra® Aesthetic and JUVÉDERM® are entirely non-surgical, require no downtime and produce natural-looking, potentially long-lasting results.

Treatment with Injectable Fillers

Patients love how simple it is to have Dr. Bonakdar treat them with dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® in Newport Beach. She will first demonstrate to her client the areas that need correction. She will then choose the filler best suited for her patient's needs. Then, the patient can simply lie back and let Dr. Bonakdar work her magic. The procedure itself can take as little as 20 minutes.

Dr. Bonakdar uses 2 of the most recent innovations in injection methods: blunt micro-cannulas and the injection pump. Both techniques are new to the U.S. market and provide a more comfortable experience for the patient while reducing tell-tale signs of treatment.

Blunt Micro-Cannulas

Unlike sharp needles, this revolutionary tool avoids puncturing blood vessels during injection and results in less bruising. Blunt micro-cannulas are especially effective for highly vascular areas of the face, such as the under-eye area and temple hollows.

Injection Pump

Rather than relying on manual thumb pressure, this injection system uses a foot pump releasing controlled air pressure to deliver the product – thereby eliminating thumb fatigue. Using this system, Dr. Bonakdar can focus on precise filler placement for a better aesthetic result with less pain and bruising for the patient. Additionally, because the injection pump is more exact, one syringe goes much further than with traditional injection methods.

There are many different types of fillers on the market. Dr. Bonakdar will help you choose the right one for you.

JUVÉDERM – Ultra, Ultra Plus, Ultra XC, and Ultra Plus XC

Unlike some fillers which are made with collagen, this injectable treatment uses hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is already present in your skin to provide volume and hydration. JUVÉDERM is specially formulated to have an extremely smooth consistency so it flows easily and naturally into the skin. Dr. Bonakdar most often uses JUVÉDERM in Orange County to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds ("parentheses") and the hollowness that appears in the mid-face with age. Results are visible immediately and can last up to 1 year.

Sculptra Aesthetic

Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material that is biodegradable and biocompatible. In addition to reducing the appearance of wrinkles and creases, Sculptra can correct signs of facial fat loss and increase skin thickness. To achieve maximum improvement, Dr. Bonakdar generally recommends 3 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Results appear gradually and last for up to 2 years

Artefill

Artefill is the first FDA-approved long lasting solution for nasolabial folds and we're thrilled to offer it to our patients in Irvine and Newport Beach. Not your typical collagen filler, Artefill also includes PMMA microspheres to encourage collagen production for long-lasting results. Usually only 1 or 2 treatments are required. Visible improvement is immediate. Over the course of several months, treatment results continue to improve. Dr. Bonakdar has been chosen as an Artefill Center of Excellence Provider. Five-year studies have proven safety and effectiveness of Artefill.

After Treatment

Most of our patients feel comfortable getting right back to their usual routine after treatment with injectable fillers. There may be slight and temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, but a dab of makeup can usually cover it right up. Also, a bruising kit cream and pill available at our office can minimize bruising. When results appear and how long they last will differ based on the type of filler. Dr. Bonakdar will help you choose the right filler based on your goals.

Explore Your Options

At our practice, there's certainly no lack of options for non-surgical med spa treatments. During a thorough consultation, Dr. Bonakdar will carefully explain your options as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each treatment. Frequently, patients choose to combine injectable fillers with BOTOX® Cosmetic for a "liquid facelift."
